Learn how to take your own measurements and choose the right size for your pattern. If you fall between sizes, don’t worry—we’ll cover the basics of altering your pattern to fit you. Finally, you’ll learn how to prepare your fabric, transfer pattern markings, and cut out your project.
Don't worry you don't have to buy your fabric just yet we can discuss the best fabrics to suit your project and where to buy from in the first class.

Now the fun really starts. Powered by tea, coffee, cake, and biscuits, you’ll spend the rest of the class working on your me made outfit .There will be plenty of guidance available whenever you need it.

Explore the pleasure of dressmaking in this make your own clothes class in Stafford, where beginners can learn how to create their very own me-made wardrobe. Join our classes and discover the excitement of making your clothes step by step in a relaxed setting. As long as you can operate a sewing machine, this class is perfect you - it offers ample guidance and practice time to help you gain confidence in your new activity.
  • Learn to take accurate body measurements and identify your body shape. (Week 1 class)
  • Find your ideal size on your pattern and master making basic adjustments.(week 1 class)
  • Understand how to prepare your fabric and follow a lay plan.(Week 2)
  • Gain confidence in cutting out fabric and interpreting pattern pieces.(Week 3 onwards)
  • Enjoy sewing different seams while learning essential terminology.
  • Master the art of pressing for a professional finish.
  • Leave with your first me made outfit, proud of your achievement.
The class is spread over 6 evenings, allowing you plenty of time between sessions to do some practice. You can book these classes regularly throughout the year and pay for them in blocks of two weeks. If you wish to make additional outfits or if some dates don't suit you, you can easily book dates that work best for your diary.
Upon booking, we'll send you fabric and pattern suggestions, including our current favourite dress designs from The Bold One designer in New Zealand: Rossi, Fredy, or Gracie. These patterns are beginner-friendly, have no fastenings and are a flattering fit with pockets - a perfect starting point for your dressmaking journey.
By the end of this workshop, you'll walk away feeling confident, inspired, and thrilled with your first handmade creation.

  • Warning: learning to sew may lead to a fabric-buying addiction and a compulsion to look at how clothes are made.
  • New friends will be made, and there will be an increased tea, cake, and biscuits intake.
Knowledge required
Beginner-friendly. We do recommend you attend our learn to sew class if you have never used a sewing machine before.
What to bring
From week 2 Your chosen pattern and fabric and matching thread.
For week 1 please bring a note book and wear light weight clothing for an example t shirt and leggings underneath your main clothes as we will be learning how to take body measurements.

This class series runs over 2 consecutive sessions, which are 1 week apart.

Location

The location varies by date (select a date to see this). You'll get the specific address after booking.

Your teacher can also travel within 15 miles of Stafford, to a venue of your choice for a private class.
